ROOM #402: Hope Does Not Require Denying the Storm

There is a version of hope that asks people to pretend nothing hurts. ROOM #402 is built around a different idea: hope does not require denial.

Storms are real. Grief is real. Fear, uncertainty and exhaustion can be real at the same time that faith remains real. Honest hope has room for all of that truth.

The purpose of faith is not to shame people for having human emotions. It can provide language for endurance, community for difficult seasons and meaning when circumstances do not offer easy explanations.

Sometimes rising again begins before circumstances improve. It begins when a person decides that pain will be acknowledged without being allowed to define every possibility that remains.

Hope can be quiet. It may look like asking for help, making one responsible decision, getting through one day, accepting support or believing that the current chapter is not the entire book.
