Mental wellness deserves language that is compassionate, responsible and free from shame. Dr. Marshall S. McGill Sr.’s professional history includes mental-health advocacy, counseling, family enrichment, adolescent services, behavioral-health support, crisis support, youth development and leadership counseling.

He founded and served as President of the Good Samaritan Counseling & Resource Institute, an organization established to provide counseling, family support, personal development, spiritually informed care and community resources.

During the COVID-era period, his professional record includes the development and training of more than 200 mental-health workers and coaches. His approach emphasizes ethical scope of practice, compassionate communication, professional boundaries, responsible referral and collaboration with licensed clinicians.

A central principle is that faith should never be used to shame people for seeking professional mental-health treatment. Spiritual encouragement, community support, responsible coaching and qualified clinical care can work together without pretending they are interchangeable.

Good leadership knows its limits. Credibility grows when a helper can say, ‘This is within my role,’ or ‘This requires another qualified professional.’ Responsible referral is not weakness. It is ethical care.

Hope becomes stronger when it is joined with honesty, resources and responsible action. Reducing stigma starts by treating people with dignity and making it safer to ask for help.
