On December 7, 2010, Congressman Sanford D. Bishop Jr. entered a tribute titled ‘In Honor of Bishop Marshall S. McGill’ into the Congressional Record of the United States House of Representatives. The tribute documented leadership in education, counseling, humanitarian service, international development, ministry and civic engagement.

The significance of a permanent public record is not simply recognition; it is that schools, counseling systems, humanitarian efforts and public-service roles represent work done for people. Recognition matters most when it points back to service.
